Best success for good maned Lions. Collect all the indigenous Tanzanian
species - including the elusive Gerenuk and Lesser Kudu. The species
available include buffalo, Liechtenstein hartebeest, common waterbuck,
Roosevelt sable, nyasa wildebeest, zebra, impala, lion, leopard, elephant,
eland, hippo, crocodile, reedbuck, bushbuck, warthog, hyena and plenty of
other smaller game.
Outfitter operates out of 3 different concessions (M1; R1 and K4),
situated north west of Selous some 500kms from DAR making it possible
to drive (6 hrs on tar road) or fly into the areas' airstrips. Click the map
of hunting concessions in Tanzania. The Selous areas are between ruaha
river to the north and Kilombero river to the south, M1 and R1 are
adjacent to each other while K4 is to the south of the other two
concessions. Click Here for a key for map of Tanzania
hunting areas.
On trophy quality, lion are the typical Selous type, big bodied but
less mane compared to western and Masailand ones. Some exceptionally
good ones have been taken and the chances are 50%-70%. The leopard
trophy is of very good size as there is plenty of food around (over 80%
chance), while elephants taken are over 5 ft 10 inches in length
with weight average 30 lbs.
The beauty of the Selous lies in its' real wilderness, plenty of game
around makes it an excellent place for those wanting to see the real
old Africa. The experience one gets from hunting there is just unique,
it's really wonderful for family safaris. One could do some tiger
fishing as the camps are all located along the Ruaha and Kilombero rivers.
Their professional hunters are mostly Zimbabwe whites (if clients
request we do provide for local ones), their hunting skills and
knowledge of wildlife and the bush is excellent. The best time for
the cat hunters is from August 1st while elephant hunting is all
season round i.e. from July 1st. Hunting package descriptions are listed
by species in the menu.
