Canadian Polar Bear Hunt

This is a true expedition into the Canadian Arctic to hunt one of the most sought after animals in the world, the Polar Bear. Along with high success rates and outstanding trophy quality, this 12 day hunt in the Arctic is sure to be one of your most memorable. And aside from that the Inuit culture in its own is an unforgettable experience.

Hunt Location:

Some of these hunts are conducted along the Arctic coast ( Beaufort Sea )and are done out of communities such as Holman, Tuktoyaktuk, Paulatuk. We also offer hunts on the Hudson Bay out of such communities as Igloolik, Cape Dorset and Coral Harbour  all of which have a high harvest quota of Polar Bears. This quota, of course, is proportional to, and reflects the local bear population.

BC Outfitters offers polar bear hunts in the Spring and / or Fall.  Fall hunts can be combined with Walrus and Caribou and in some cases Muskox while Spring hunts can be combined with Muskox, wolves and wolverine. This combination will  depend largely on which community your hunt is based out and permits available.

Hunting Methods:

Hunting is done from outpost camps and hunting camps in prime areas that may be up to 100 miles from the nearest community. On the ice, you will travel and hunt by dog sled. A snowmobile with all you gear and accommodations is never far behind.

Conditions:

All hunts are normally of 12 to 14 days duration on a 1X2 basis (one guide and dog team, plus one guide on snowmobile to one hunter), or a 2X2 basis if the clients wish. Extra hunting days can be arranged "on the spot" if the client has not had the opportunity to bag a bear within the 12 day hunting period. The hunt ends when the hunter has bagged his bear, even if this happens the first day or two. We urge are clients to have a flexible schedule to allow for extra hunting days if required.

Hunt Cost:

The cost of the hunt is $27,500.00 USD

There is also a 2.5% GST (tax) on all hunts in Canada.

The cost for a non‑hunting companion is $7500.00 US with a guide and snowmobile.

B.C. Outfitters Consultant has made special arrangements with each of the guides so that they will offer a special rate to return if hunter is unsuccessful in harvesting a mature bear during the course of his 12 - 14 day hunt. This is provided that the hunter can return that same year.

The hunting license and polar bear tag is around 100.00 but the Government charges a 750.00 Can Funds trophy fee after a bear has been harvested. This is paid in the community in which your hunt took place at the local Conservation office.

Return Hunt & Extra Hunting Days

The price for extra hunting days vary with each guide but most are around  $ 500.00 per/day.  Because BC Outfitters works with several different agents the return cost can vary but most are $ 5,000 for first five days regardless if you harvest bear on first day out or 5th day.  Starting on the 6th day hunter would have to pay $ 500 / per/day.

The final decision on the return hunt policy will be up to the outfitter / guide. This is only if you did not have an opportunity to harvest a mature bear or if you and your guide made an agreement while on your hunt to return that same year.

A return hunt is not guaranteed if a hunter is not successful after his first attempt but BC Outfitters and your polar bear outfitter will put forth their best effort to make it happen. So many factors have to be taken into account such as unsafe ice conditions  or time frame makes a return hunt not possible.

The USFW department are not allowing polar bears harvested by US Hunters to be brought back into the USA at this time. There are several ongoing law suits at this time and we are hoping that this decision will be over turned.

(Musk Ox also Available)

If a hunter wishes to harvest a muskox while on a polar bear hunt  there is a $ 3.500.00 additional charge.  ( This will depend on the outfitter / guide having the extra tag)
