Whitetail Deer - Alberta
What was once one of North America's best
kept hunting secrets a mere 20 years ago is now front-page news.
Consider this fact: in the Third Edition of the Boone and Crockett
Club's Records of North American Whitetail Deer they list the top ten
typical and non-typical deer ever taken. Alberta is home to three of these
bucks; no other single state or province on the continent has more deer on
the list. And there is another one to add - a big bow harvested buck shot
this past fall. The buck scored an incredible 206 7/8 placing it #1 in Pope
& Young and #2 B&C typical, pending an official panel
review and approval. The rate at which record-class bucks have been taken
in Alberta has never been higher than it’s been in the last decade and
the prospects for the future are brighter than ever.
BC Outfitters works with several
excellent outfitters that offer whitetail hunts in Alberta
Bow Hunt
Bow-hunting whitetail August 25th to
September 16th. This time of the year the bucks are in their bachelor
groups and are very pattern-able. Outfitter can take up to four hunters
per week on this 2 on 1 hunt. You will hunt the big bucks over grain and
alfalfa fields on private land. Last year they were 100% on opportunity.
Rifle Hunt
The rifle whitetail hunts are six-day
hunts in November when the bucks are in the rut. They hunt by calling,
rattling, and stand hunting. They will hunt close to the doe herds, as the
bucks will travel large areas in search of hot does. Because of the lack
of hunting pressure and the heat of rut, the bucks will move all day in
search of does, so they have their hunters hunt all day so as to maximize
their hunting time and increase their success rate. They use good
equipment and quality stands to ensure their hunters remain warm and
comfortable during their hunt. They take four hunters per week
