Trophy Mule Deer - Alberta
Alberta's mule deer are known for their massive body size and heavy antlers,
and several record book mule deer bucks are taken each year from across the
province. The unpredictable behavior of large trophy mule deer throughout
the open season has resulted in the spot and stalk method being the most
popular way of harvesting trophy class animals.
BC Outfitters works with several
different mule deer outfitters in Alberta that offer both rifle and
archery hunts.Their Mule Deer rifle hunts are located
in the Foothills of Southern Alberta. The area they hunt in is a wild land
park and there are no motorized vehicles allowed. They hunt on horseback
or 4 X 4 and have a high success on large bucks. In the 2007 season they
harvested Bucks ranging 178 to 193 Boone and Crocket points. There archery
Mule Deer hunts are located in the porcupine hills of southern Alberta.
Starting in September through to October 24th.This area has a very high
concentration of Mule Deer. They hunt on private ranches and hunters may
have several stalks each day. Both the Rifle and the Archery hunts are 6
day hunts.
These hunts are a four day hunt with
hunters arriving a couple days prior to the start of the hunt to scout for
their dream buck. The local ranchers in his area have been guiding these
hunt so there is no problem with land access. When
you are booking a mule deer hunt in Alberta access is one of the most
important factors to your success and this outfitter has this covered by
using the ranchers as his guides. He has been doing this from the
beginning and this is why these hunts have been so successful. Nothing
more frustrating than to spot a huge buck and not have permission to
access the property.
Every year trophies are taken in the 190 - 200
class on these 4 day hunts
